The south East Borj or bastion, guards the gate of the citadel and its access. Jutting out where the southern and Eastern ramparts et the Kasbah meet, less than 300 feet from the centre, it controlled all the roads leading to the high citadel, or Agadir Oufella. First point of contact with the enemy, this bastion was very exposed, and so suffered the pangs of war and was demolished, rebuilt or redesigned several times. Visible from all around, this square tower defends an esplanade overlooking the sea which, in its heyday, welcomed merchants and traders of the trans-Saharan trade.

In 1913, the Borj was unfortunately pierced with openings to allow cannon fire, which, by allowing passage from outside, affected the image of solidity of the Kasbah.
