Integrating the cable car into the landscape
To preserve the sight of this unique fortress at the very top of the hill, and in compliance with national heritage protection legislation, all cable-car stations and platforms are buried or tucked away in buildings constructed of local stone to minimize visual impact on the iconic landscape, as will two restaurants, an information desk, toilets, and user safety areas.
Cable car technology facilitates access to this heritage site while reducing the impact of the rise in the numbers of visitors. Over a mile long, a cable connects the city-center station, 14 feet above sea level, to the Kasbah platform at 656 feet altitude, in a few minutes of exceptional panoramic views. The buried platform ‘on top’ connects above ground with the road reserved for public transport and the guided discovery paths across Agadir Oufella in an integrated public mobility plan which eliminates the need for parking space while allowing a wider number of
people to experience this important heritage of Moroccan culture.
This mobility plan also includes a departure station to guide those wishing to visit the surrounding landscapes and heritage, and links to theme and entertainment parks.
