This terrible disaster killed more than 15,000 people and injured more than 25,000. On the mountain overlooking the bay, the districts of Agadir Oufella and Founty were completely destroyed. On February 29, 1960, the fortress was over 90% destroyed by a devastating earthquake. Ruined buildings were razed. Only the southern wail has resisted and witnessed to past grandeur.
